First Cardiology Consultants and MedConnect Management Consultants (UAE) were invited to recommend an operational strategy for the new facility set up, a self contained Specialty Hospital, at Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria, established to provide advanced specialty services to patients from Akwa Ibom region and all other parts of Nigeria. Nigerians spend huge sums of foreign exchange for medical tourism to various parts of the world annually. A significant burden of disease for which such foreign exchange expenses are incurred is for heart diseases including congenital (Abnormalities from birth) heart disease, and now being diagnosed, thus exacerbating the lack of facilities for advanced treatment in Nigeria. Such illness hitherto would have been explained as acts of God with a resignation by the patients and relatives that nothing could be done. This proposed advanced specialist Hospital will establish the core foundation for the ultimate therapies of these conditions using the best available science. First Cardiology Consultants was founded with the sole purpose of bringing the most advanced care in Cardiovascular Medicine to Nigeria, without making any excuses that Nigeria is a developing country with challenges that make delivery of modern medical care impossible. The principals have spent a combined total of over 50 years of postgraduate experience in Europe and North America, attaining the highest standards of excellence in Cardiovascular care in those domains.
